Is Therapy Worth It? What Changes After a Few Sessions

Neha Maniyar1 min read

It's a fair question. Therapy takes time, money and courage. So is it worth it? For many people, yes — but it helps to know what to expect.

What therapy can do

  • Give you a space where you're truly listened to, without judgement or advice you didn't ask for.
  • Help you understand why you feel and react the way you do.
  • Teach practical tools for anxiety, stress, anger or low mood.
  • Help you communicate more clearly in relationships.
  • Support you through grief, change and uncertainty.

What therapy can't do

A therapist can't fix your life for you or change other people. Change comes from the work you do together — in sessions and in small steps between them.

What people often notice after a few sessions

  • Feeling lighter after putting things into words
  • Catching unhelpful thoughts sooner
  • Better sleep as worry settles
  • Saying no more easily
  • Understanding patterns that kept repeating

How to tell if it's working

Progress isn't a straight line. Ask yourself: do I feel safe with this person? Am I learning something about myself? Are small things getting easier? If the answer is no after a few sessions, say so — a good therapist will welcome the conversation, and sometimes a different fit is the answer.

Is it expensive?

It can be an investment. Shorter sessions, spacing sessions out, or workplace wellness programmes can help. See our guide to therapy costs in Pune.

If you'd like to talk it through, you can book a session with Neha — in Baner, Pune or online from anywhere in India.
