How to Find the Right Therapist in Pune (and Questions to Ask)

Neha Maniyar2 min read

Searching for "best psychologist in Pune" brings up long lists and conflicting reviews. The truth is there's no single best therapist — there's the right one for you. Here's how to find them.

1. Be clear about what you want help with

Anxiety, a relationship, a child's behaviour, grief, burnout? Many therapists work broadly; some specialise. Knowing your main concern helps you choose.

2. Check training and approach

Look for relevant qualifications in psychology or counselling. It's fine to ask about their training and the approaches they use.

3. Think about practical fit

  • Location or online: Do you want to meet near home — for example in Baner, Aundh or Balewadi — or would online be easier?
  • Timings: Can you attend consistently?
  • Fees: What can you sustain for a few months? (See therapy costs in Pune.)
  • Gender and language: Many people feel more comfortable with a woman psychologist, or with someone who speaks their language. Those preferences are completely valid.

4. Questions to ask before or in your first session

  • Have you worked with concerns like mine?
  • What does a typical session look like?
  • How will we know if it's helping?
  • How do you handle confidentiality?
  • What happens if I need more support than you can offer?

5. Trust how you feel

The relationship with your therapist is one of the strongest predictors of whether therapy helps. After a session or two, ask yourself: did I feel heard? Safe? Not judged? If not, it's okay to try someone else.
